September 2020

Greetings Nomads,

Back at the lovely Selborne Golf Estate for our August game and by all accounts everything went our way. A fine course setup, enough carts that will get you round the course without giving up the ghost for no reason, weather that started out beautiful and ended up as a challenge and cold beers available afterwards, social distancing observed, and the usual pigeons trying to act cool.

To all our visitors that joined us, hope you had a marvellous day. I was fortunate to play with David Hoehler from Easterns who makes his annual pilgrimage down from Edenvale to get some winter sun every year this time and as he sets up shop at Selborne for two weeks, it’s like a home game for him. Alas both our scores on the day left much to be desired and we were never going to threaten the BPP on the day, but we sure did have fun.

Our opposition Rynardt Crous and Scottburgh’s newest PRO, recently relocated from Sheppie, and resident hobbit “Stretch” Mike Hartley ran away with the BPP. Rynardt ‘s display of course management, ball striking and putting with a broom had us all in awe of this display, well done on your 40 pointer and welcome to A Div. next month. The same could not be said of “Stretch” who true to Hobbit form continued to look for places to build a new borough, but his recovery from these said places was nothing short of remarkable.

On a lighter note our esteemed Captain has lost his title as Papa Smurf. This must surely go to the newest member of the smurf’s, namely Johnny Vryonides. The wild hair, beard and suntan? abate not blue, has enshrined you as the head of that clan. Not sure how many smurf’s there are so far but you are the designated leader.

Chap’s it looks like we will be back with Prize giving at Margate in October, so remember to bring your own towel and no.1’s. Let’s all show our support and stay. We have plenty of awards and inductions that need to be recognised.

So come and see who the newbies are and pay homage with a cold one to the boys and girls who will receive their accolades that they justly deserve.

Till next time, keep it on the fairway and stay safe.

Shaggy
