March 2022

Greeting Nomads,

To play golf in March at the South Coast must be one of life’s true pleasures, the sun always shines, the golf course is always in pristine condition and a gentle breeze will blow to keep you cool while you stroll the fairways plotting and executing a perfect round that will see you post your best score ever, …well for some anyway.

Welcome to Sheppies, the golfing gods where on our side and the local boys showed us just how easy the course played. Well done to Club Chairman Ryan Ringo and Club Vice Captain Howard Crouch for winning their divisions on 38 and 39 points, respectively. For  the rest well let us just say the outing was nice and the beers cold.

As this was our Captain’s last official prize giving the number of Nomads that attended prize giving was a pleasure to behold, not a perfect score but encouraging anyway.

Mr. Captain from all of us we wish you well and you have our undying gratitude for a job well done , a tenure that stretched well past your year. You and your committee guided our club into and through the Covid epidemic with the wellbeing of all our members in the foremost of your actions and decisions. We all thank you deeply.

On a sad note, Southern Natal lost one of its Honorary members in Dave Chaplin,

Dave joined Nomads in 1977 and would have been honoured with his 45-year tie in April. In his time as a Nomad, he played 321 games, ending his playing career a number of years ago, during his playing years Dave did not miss a National Tournament and when he could no longer play his presence at the monthly games continued acting as field starter. His ready smile and dry wit were a highlight of any interaction with Dave.

Southern Natal and indeed Nomads has been enriched by his presence and he will be sorely missed. RIP my friend.

Nomads our next game is at the lovely Southbroom in April lets hope the weather gods play ball.

Till next time, keep it on the fairway and stay safe.

Shaggy
