April 2021

Greetings Nomads,

April at the coast must be the best time of all.

The weather is superb, the wind abates a little and there is sufficient water to keep the courses in superb condition.

None more than our monthly game at Sheppies. A huge shout out to Jessie, Eddie and the Peacock for the day. Chaps, the facilities and the day was ace. It is amazing the response from the members when you mention that the Nomads are about to try something different. All we did was to offer Prize giving with a twist, once off only I might add, this being that prize giving was conducted in our playing clothes. Now I do not know if it is an aversion to showering, or getting dressed in no1s. or both, but the response was huge, and we only had 6 early leavers. The next trick is to get the same commitment going forward starting at the Wild Coast which is our next game and a short but necessary AGM, full dress code will be required. We have a full field, and it is a shotgun start so get there at least by 09h00 that should give you time to get through the table and get out to the respective T box.

Back to Sheppies, it was with pure pleasure and pride that we shared and celebrated the 60-year tie award to Doug Milne. Chaps, this is a milestone that the bulk of us at Southern Natal will never achieve, purely based on our average age. Pat, who was at his side, has just turned 90 years young, happy belated birthday from all of us.

It was good to see Uncle Dave and Mary Chaplin at the club. Dave will be back as controller at Wild Coast, we missed ya fella.

A.Div winner on 38 points was Brian Brandis, B Div on 42 went to Brooks”C” and back in the winner’s circle for the C Div was none other than Scottburgh’s resident PRO, Michael Hartley on 39. Just goes to show that if your playing privileges are in jeopardy you can get into the winner’s circle.

The chop of the day and crying towel winner was none other than Devlin “Slim “Fraser on 17 points. Talk about fighting demons, anyway good luck at Wild Coast chap.

Once again, all who had a bet with JW had to fork out the cash and just pay and pay, we know that you have eased into retirement, but this has now become a rather lucrative income stream. I know that Inland Revenue takes a dim view of passive income, unless you are a card-carrying member of the ruling party! Time to talk to the handicapper me thinks.

See you all at Wild Coast.

Till next time, keep it on the fairway and stay safe.

Shaggy
